Helpful Hints
- Keep a copy of you claim number with you at all times.
- Keep a diary of phone calls to and from your insurer and copies of all documents.
- Keep all your claim correspondence in one place, reply to all correspondence and keep copies of all your receipts and doctors reports.
- Report everything to your doctor.
- It is you right to choose you own re-hab and treating doctors.
- Be on time with your appointments, take someone with you as a witness and for support- it is you right to have a support person with you when attending appointments.
- If you are a member of a union, talk to them about any problems you may have with your claim.
- Put in writing all your complaints to the insurer, Worksafe , Medical Practitioners Board or the ombudsman.
- Stay in touch with your employer and discuss any problems with them {it’s their levy paying for your claim.} Your employer may be of assistance in dealing with problems.
- If you are required to travel to attend your doctors, Conciliation, or any medical appointments, you can claim for your travel costs.
- It is your right under the Freedom Of Information Act to request copies of your file and copies of the reports written by all treating practitioners including the ones you are sent to by the insurer for assessments on your entitlements about your claim or injury.
- Under the Freedom of Information you can request copies of your surveillance reports and video tapes.
- It is your right to refuse verbal phone assessments by your insurer to your treating doctors for reporting and assessing entitlements on your claim. { put this in writing.} However you must consent to the insurer to send you to see one of their doctors for medical reviews.
Remember this is the Workers Compensation Act not the employers or the Government compensation act. Its primary function is to ensure the workers best interest, health, rehab, retraining and compensation.
